Fantastic job, Paul! Thanks very much for the time and effort that goes into posting these videos, they are a Godsend as I’ve very little time to get to the gym because of my long work hours. Great food for thought, straight to the point and very well articulated. Thanks again, I look forward to the next one!

Love the videos, great pointers to apply in real world situations

Nice job. I hope that you are not too old to be grappling as I started BJJ 3 years ago when I was 55. Having studied Wing Chun for a number of years I can attest to the effectiveness of a continuing barrage of straight punches.

Very cool. Glad you are posting these. Great tips to add to the arsenal.
February 3rd, 2010 at 5:54 pm
Paul,
You have addressed for the first time, how to effectively defend against a wild swinging street fighter. I can’t wait for this dvd to drop.

Great job Paul. Your emails have inspired me to resume grappling (I’m 58 years old). Have followed your training tips and they have worked great. So far I’ve been back into BJJ for three months and have remained injury free. You are right on the mark with your self-defense program.
Thanks for all your knowledge.

Too old? – don`t you believe it Paul, you haven`t even reached your peak yet cobber. I took up judo in my 50s and reached black at 60. Fronting up to tournaments in an orange belt chasing competition points in your fifties can be a humbling experience but I wouldn`t have missed it for quids. Your videos are sending exactly the right message – contrary to popular myth, the grappling arts can be pursued into one`s seventies and beyond if you play it smart. Here`s cheers from Down Under.

What you’re trying to convey here is what is called the straight blast. And why stop and 6 punches? Do as many as need to overwhelm the person and get into the clinch range. From here, you can eye gouge and throw elbows, knees and head-butts. Fights over.

Thanks for putting this up. I’m sure all that I’m learning in my Muay Thai and BJJ classes will help protect me on the streets, but I love the actual street self-defense techniques. I’m going to try to add it to our focus mitt work, I think my training partners will like it.

Paul,
Great job in giving us a no nonsense video. Proper technique in delivering the right punch, is something that is often overlooked by many students. Please keep up the good work and I look forward to more no nonsense training from you in the future.

This is a great video for basic self defense. It makes a whole lot of sense.

Paul,
Thank you for making this available. Great techniques for both entry and more advanced self-defense: easily taught early, and still applies later.

Great job with the video. I am studying BJJ now but I did Wing Chun and the chain punches are great for self defense.
February 3rd, 2010 at 10:19 pm
I am glad to see that your teaching effective striking. Its important for women to know these self defense tactics. Great Job!

Nice video. Useful stuff that I can absorb and use. Thanks!

Its good how address the issue of him moving about as you hit him, however when a man is bending over a chop to the back of the neck is better.
February 4th, 2010 at 10:17 am
Great stuff. Glad to see that someone is taking the self-defense issue more seriously. While it is great to get into competitions, we musn’t forget that there wouldn’t be martial arts if it weren’t for the need for self-defense. Thanks a bunch.

thanks for the machine gun boxing drill,i’m from lancaster,pa and my father use to do ameture boxing this has helped me more in sparring than the old way my father taught me and your write about the breathing i noticed guys a spar with when they dont breathe they get tired out quick

Another great video! I love the way that you show easy to remember techniques that anybody can do. People sometimes freeze when the s*** hits the fan! They are trying to remember some fancy technique to thwart the attacker, instead of using simple techniques. If you are moving, you are winning! Don’t ever stop!

I enjoyed this video, great job and keep up with the imformative postings.
February 4th, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Great idea about using your palms when ur attacker is bent over.
February 4th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
Once again great info….in a day where so many people are training in MMA, its important to train for real life situations. The ones where the Ref won’t protect you!!
February 5th, 2010 at 12:33 pm
Good clip! Whether it is called machine gun punching, the straight blast, or its western adaption – the western boxing style punching blast, the techinique has proven effective in many MMA contests and it should be effective on the street – as long as, as the clip states, you take care of your hands. No reason it can’t be done with palm heel strikes. It’s not usually effective in regular boxing matches because of boxing’s evasion tactics. But during a heated exchange in the street even boxers usually charge forward at raming speed. 52 blocks uses elbows with its Bums Rush to a similiar effect.

Another good vid. If he puts his head down another that protects your hands (other than grappling) is to use the knees.
February 5th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
Paul, thanks for all your videos!

Paul— videos are of the hook. Don’t stop player!!!!
February 6th, 2010 at 9:42 pm

Thank you for posting these videos! They are a great training tool for us all! Keep up the great work.
February 10th, 2010 at 11:52 pm
Very good instruction and detail. Very good striking transitions and control.
February 12th, 2010 at 10:20 am
Paul, the stuff you teach is exactly what I want to learn. I have never started a fight in my life. Everyone who knows me knows that I’m into peace and love. However i’m a 48 year old mixed race guy living in an all white small town and unfortunately I have to defend myself occasionally. I have been doing jui jitsu and MMA for 5 months. I would love to compete but time isn’t on my side. So I’m really training to be able to defend me and my family. I really feel that you understand and make no apology for taking it to the street. Can’t afford your dvds at the moment but I plan to buy all of them. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Jason

I’m listening and watching at the sametime and just as you say that you was good at getting others to fight at win,but you had never won anything, In short it’s like your telling my life with your words, it’s crazy.
